Global leaders meet at COP16 as biodiversity loss accelerates at an alarming rate

Biodiversity loss is accelerating at an alarming rate, as recent studies find that global wildlife populations have fallen by an average of 73% in 50 years.

We are at a crossroads—biodiversity loss is accelerating at an alarming rate. The abundance of mammals, reptiles, birds, fish and amphibians is in freefall, a recent scientific assessment has found global wildlife populations having fallen by an average of 73% in 50 years.

We human beings tend to take for granted those we love and it is even worse with respect to biodiversity. Following the Montreal conference in December 2022, more than 80% of governments have yet to submit a comprehensive plan for conserving biodiversity, which includes their efforts to protect 30% of land and sea for nature, among other things.

We must act now, there is no second chance for extinction. If we can protect 30% by 2030, we will also be mitigating climate change and regenerating ecosystems as critical libraries of life. Vote for politicians who are committed to halting and reversing biodiversity loss.
